Jen Adams has been with Manx Whale and Dolphin Watch since 2012, first as a research volunteer, before returning in 2013 to set up the Outreach and Education Department. Prior to life on the Isle of Man, she worked at an environmental education centre in Surrey and has been working with young people since the age of 18. Her knowledge of wildlife ecology and conservation were self-taught, and a result of many years attending courses and volunteering on projects.
With a background and passion in environmental education, Jen learnt about marine mammal science on the job, whilst developing areas in which this science can be demonstrated to young people. In 2015, she spearheaded the process of gaining charitable status for MWDW and in 2019 opened the Visitor Centre in Peel.
Jen began running occasional school sessions for MWDW as early as 2012, then regularly as of 2017, when she set up her business 'Manx Cetacean Education' which was contracted out by the charity to conduct all educational visits.
For the first time, Jen has been awarded full-time salary funding for her role at MWDW, thanks to the generosity and support of the Manx Lottery Trust and the Scheinberg Family. We cannot thank both entities enough for funding this important work.
